The grand celebration of the 68th Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party commenced at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, this afternoon.

The function was held under the patronage of the Chairman of SLFP: President Maithripala Sirisena, who also celebrates his 68th birthday today.
The 68th anniversary of the SLFP is themed: ‘Theenduwa Hari Athata’ – ‘The Decision in the Right Decision’, to unveil the future plans of the party.

President Maithripala Sirisena, addressing the 68th anniversary of the SLFP said, after the enactment of the 19th amendment of the Constitution, it is the Prime Minister who is powerful.

Therefore he emphasizes, the citizens need to be enthusiastic not in selecting a President, but in selecting the next Prime Minister.

He further stated, the citizens must identify the politicians who are suitable to the country.

Speaking at the event, Parliamentarian Nimal Siripala De Silva said, the “party” which has the ability to produce “Kings” is the “Sri Lanka Freedom Party”. He said, the SLFP joined with the UNP to create a consensus government; thereby, when comparing the principals of the SLFP with other parties, it is clear that the SLFP has the ability to join forces.

The restructuring of the SLFP has commenced.
General Secretary of the SLFP: Dayasiri Jayasekera said, the restructuring of the party across 160 electorates happened today. He further stated, the SLFP does not act on a private agenda. He also said, the effort taken by the leader of the SLFP to prevent national assets being sold out to foreigners needs to be praised.

Vice President of the SLFP: Parliamentarian Mahinda Amaraweera said, the aim of the SLFP is to connect with the governance of the country, while preserving the identity of the country.

Senior Vice President of the SLFP: Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa said, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party will be a decisive factor at the forthcoming elections.
