Deputy Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva: Dayani Mendis, addressing the 42nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council said, Sri Lanka should be duly recognized for the victories it has attained amidst many challenges, including the Easter Sunday attacks.

The evaluation report on the recommendations laid down by the international delegation on the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearances – when it toured Sri Lanka in 2015 – were focused on during her speech.

She noted the legislative framework brought about by Parliament last year to prevent enforced disappearances is a step forward in this process.

She noted, representatives of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission are facilitated with unhindered access to all detention centres.

She specifically noted the establishment of the Office on Missing Persons.

The project also includes the establishment of an office to grant compensation to victims and their families, subject to gross human rights violations and violations of humanitarian law.
