President Maithripala Sirisena says that an amount that has not been spent on education by any other government was spent on education after he became the president. The President was speaking at the ceremony to vest with the students today the new multi-purpose building of the Polonnaruwa Kottapitiya Segala Maha vidyalaya. He said that Amount spent for university education is 60 billion rupees, whereas previous annual spending was 45 billion. He further said that parents have a huge responsibility of protecting their children from drug menace and anti-social activities.
The multi-purpose building has been built with a laboratory, a home science laboratory and classrooms under the ‘Pibidemu Polonnaruwa’ programme at a cost of 7.3 million rupees.
The president also vested with the students the new main hall and multi-purpose building constructed at a cost of 4.2 million rupees at Elahera, Kahata-gaha-pitiya primary school and the modernized classroom building of the Elehera Radavi-ge-oya primary school. The new classroom building constructed at a cost of 10 million rupees at Elahera Nikapitiya Primary schools was also vested with the students by the president.
He took part to distribute stationary, library books, to handover housing assistance to low income recipients and at Ran-geviliya programme of Segala temple. Agriculture equipment were distributed among 200 farmers in the area.
