United National Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa promises to implement a farmers’ charter for a historic service to agriculture if elected President. He says he will sign a social agreement with farmers and grant it legal status to achieve that objective. The UNF candidate also says he will establish a Presidential Task Force for agriculture for the implementation of the charter.

He was speaking at a conference of farmers in Polonnaruwa district Yesterday. The UNF candidate said further that paddy would be given a certified price of 50 rupees a kilo. Also, the farmers’ pension scheme would be reactivated while introducing a better fertilizer subsidy. He added that an agricultural production package would be in place as well for the benefit of farmer
