Leader of the United National Party, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the ‘flower bud’ that oppresses the public will not be allowed to raise its head. He notes the people ignore face value and consider the history of the candidate and his impact on the economy, when deciding on their choice. The Premier was speaking at a meeting of the UNP Colombo Bala Mandalaya at Sirikotha Yesterday. He said the prices of many commodities have now been brought down and the salaries of public servants increased considerably. He questioned as to why the previous regime could not do so.
Also speaking here, UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said the party would attempt to regain the head of the state position it lost in 1994. He commended the Prime Minister for the party’s victorious move for its unity which would be crucial in continuing with the present administration in the next five to ten years.
