Chairman of the Elections Commission Mahinda Deshapriya says that
the length of ballot paper for the presidential election could be approximately 24 inches. The specimen of the ballot paper has been forwarded to the government printer today. The chairman also said that due to the increase of number of candidates, the number of polling agents to a polling station will increase to 70 and the number of counting agents will increase to 175. , Accordingly, the arrangements have to be made to facilitate them. The chairman of the election commission made these comments at a meeting with directors and editors in charge of news divisions of media institutions held at the election secretariat this morning. He emphasized the need of adhering to the media guidelines and refraining from publishing news in a way that promotes a candidate or making prejudice to a candidate. He warned that the law is enforced strictly against the journalists and media institutions who do not follow the media guidelines.
Police media spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said that conducting of processions in any form is prohibited from the date on which the nomination was accepted and one week after the results are announced. He said that a group comprising 11 people is consider as a procession. Stern action will be taken against the people who violate these guidelines.
