MP Mohan Silva says that Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapakse has become stronger with the support of Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He said that the programme to take forward the country will be implemented after 16th of next month. During a media briefing in Colombo today he said that injustices that have been caused to the war heroes will be rectified.
All masseurs are in place to conduct the election for Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha tomorrow.
Returning Officer of the Galle District Somarathna Vidanapthirana says, all measures have been put in place to conduct the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election tomorrow. Voting will take place at 47 polling booths. Empty ballot boxes were transported to these centres this morning. The registered number of voters is 53,384. Voting takes place from 7.00am to 4.00pm tomorrow, and it is mandatory to produce a valid identity card when voting. 155 candidates, representing 5 recognized political places are contesting. 28 councillors will be elected. A staff of 800 has been deployed for election duty. The final result will be issued at the Elpitiya Technical Collage. More than 1000 police officers have been deployed for duty, in view of the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election. A special security plan is being implemented at the polling booths and the vote counting centre, whilst mobile patrols will also be carried out. Representatives of a number of election monitoring missions will be observing the election process.
