The United People’s Freedom Alliance, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna signed an agreement to form a new coalition, this morning.
The new coalition is named: ‘The Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandaanaya’.
Seventeen political parties – including the UPFA, the SLFP and SLPP, the National Freedom Front, the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, and the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna – have joined the new alliance.
The ceremony to sign the agreement took place at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, under the auspices of the Presidential hopeful of the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna: Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and the leaders of the other political parties who are to be a part of the new alliance.
This new alliance will reportedly contest future elections under the ‘chair’ symbol.
