Chairman of the Elections Commission: Mahinda Deshapriya says, he has notified the President, to take action regarding public and private media institutions that breach the Set of Guidelines issued for the media.

Joining in a live discussion aired by the SLBC today, he said, a special discussion in this regard will be held between the President and the relevant sections today.

Mr. Deshapriya highly praised the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, for its balanced reporting, in the run up to the Presidential Election.

The Chairman of the Elections Commission further stated, as election propaganda activities need to cease after midnight on the 13th of November, radio and television stations will be given one opportunity on the 14th, to air the content of the previous day’s meetings.
He further stated, election propaganda content should not be circulated over social media after midnight on the 13th, and steps have been taken to monitor social media platforms.
