The new ‘Sri Lanka Army Headquarters’ was declared open this morning

The new ‘Sri Lanka Army Headquarters’ was declared open by President Maithripala Sirisena, this morning.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene and many other distinguished guests.

This new construction – which is erected at a 77-acre land area located at Akuregoda in Pelawatta – is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art technology and security systems.
The cost involved has been 53.3 billion rupees.
Accordingly, the main offices attached to the Sri Lanka Army – that are currently located all across the country – will be housed in this complex, soon.

Addressing the event, the President stated, the sacrifices the Police and the Tri-Forces make – on behalf of national and regional security – is remarkable. He also cited the contribution of the Police and the Tri-Forces, at catastrophic moments, especially when the country is faced with natural disasters. He emphasised, the disciplined, law abiding and splendid service rendered by the Tri-Forces – over the past seven decades -has formed them into the “most excellent armed force” in the world.
