Tens of thousands of people gathered in Japan’s capital Tokyo, to celebrate the enthronement of the country’s Emperor Naruhito.
Dancers, musicians and flag-waving well-wishers marked the occasion, during the festival yesterday.

The sunny streets of Tokyo are already filling up with excited crowds, ahead of Emperor Naruhito’s enthronement procession.
The Emperor and Empress will parade through the heart of the city, in an open-top limousine, this afternoon.

The Imperial procession was originally planned for October 22nd, after the Emperor’s enthronement ceremony; however, the government postponed the procession, due to recovery efforts in areas affected by Typhoon Hagibis.

Also taking part in the event are: Crown Prince and Princess Akishino, and Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
