Fishing community in the north has praised the government for the measures taken to limit the Indian fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters. They extended their gratitude to the government when they met Minister of fisheries Vijith Wijemuni Soyza and State Minister Dilip Wedaarachchi. The two Ministers recently visited the Northern Province and met the fishermen living there. The Ministers pointed out that the Sri Lankan government has started diplomatic talks with the Indian authorities over this issue. The government has been able to reduce poaching by Indian fishermen by 75 percent.
