Police have launched a major drive towards the conservation of the environment. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed the police to properly organize the conservation and beautifying of the environment. This drive will be spearheaded by the Defence Secretary. Accordingly, the Police Environmental Protection Division and environmental units at police station level are now being reorganized. The Police environmental units will be supervised by four ASPs.
The environmental conservation drive was launched from near Independence Square in Colombo, with simultaneous events at the Galle Face Green and the Pettah Bo Tree. The two private companies tasked with keeping the city clean were summoned to the Police Environmental Protection Division today and given instructions to carry out their duties throughout the day. Additionally, personnel attached to environmental units will be on patrol duty countrywide to ensure that no harm is caused to the environment.
