The Defence Secretary says the armed forces will maintain law and order, to better guarantee public security

Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratne says the president issued a gazette extraordinary tasking the armed forces with maintaining law and order, to better guarantee public security. The retired Major General says there is no intention whatsoever to take the country towards a military rule. He made the comments when he called on Chief Incumbent of Mihintale Raja Maha Vihara Venerable Walawa Henguna Wewe Dhammarathana Thera today.

The Defence Secretary noted the people have correctly understood the situation despite attempts by some to cause unwarranted fears. He assured to create an atmosphere in which all citizens from different communities and religions could live with dignity. The Defence Secretary requested support from everybody to curb the drugs menace.
