Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has emphasized the need of provision of basic facilities to prison inmates without any shortage. The minister who made a visit to the Welikada prison this morning said that the previous regime had not allocated sufficient funds to improve the facilities for prison inmates. Ten million rupees will be allocated for the improvement of sanitary facilities in the prison. The minister also stated that he will consider to socialize the inmates who are convicted for minor offences and serving long term sentences only if their behavior is satisfactory.
