President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa says that he will guarantee that there will be no influence on media freedom during his administration. There is space for any fair criticism. During the heads of media institutions today at the presidential secretariat, the president said that he believes that all media organizations will perform their duties through journalism to the nation by engaged in a media service that is helpful to the country and for the image of the country. He said that the people have elected him to increase efficiency of politicians and public servants, eliminate corruption and to develop the economy. The President said that he expects the media to give him the support to achieve those objectives. The image of the country is important for international investment and economic relations. Therefor the media has an extensive responsibility in this regard. The president commended the conduct of local media in connection with the incident connected to Swiss Embassy female officer. He pointed out the local media has the ability to correct such situations when international media organizations try to high light such incidents. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa said that the trend to draw pictures which has spread island wide and beatification of towns’ have commenced without a request from any one. The president pointed out the media heads about the importance of encouraging such groups who love the country.
