For the first time in Sri Lanka, a Tourist-Friendly Three-Wheeler Service is being introduced together with tuk-tuk drivers licensed and registered with the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.
The Tourist-Friendly Three-Wheeler Service will be introduced under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, at the Galle Face Green, this evening.
The 2018 Budget promised to make the meters mandatory, and implement a program to train tuk-tuk drivers.
At today’s event, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority will symbolically award certificates, and the Seal of Approval, to 150 tuk-tuk drivers who have successfully completed the training.
The certified tuk-tuk drivers can display the Seal on their three-wheelers, allowing local and foreign tourists to easily identify the trained drivers. The drivers would be required to prominently display in the tuk-tuk, their information such as; name, address and contact number.
