The new National Audit Act will come into force from the 1st of August, which is this Wednesday. This is a realization of a pledge given by the good governance regime in 2015. The National Audit Services Commission which was dormant for the past two and a half years will be reactivated with the enforcement of the new National Audit Act.
The National Audit Office will also be established. This new legislation is fundamental in enabling the Auditor General to carry-out his tasks effectively.
The National Audit Act was passed in Parliament on the 5th of this month. Speaker Karu Jayasooriya ratified it on the 18th. The extraordinary gazette notification in this regard, bearing President Maithripala Sirisena’s signature was published last Thursday.
