The attention has been focused by Minister Mahinda Amaraweera to appoint an independent commission to investigate oversight in to issuing drivers licenses. Minister further said that there had been discrepancies on new licenses issued. The printing of new driver licenses was given to a private contractor and the contractor has not carried out duties of printing according to the agreement. It has been identified that the government had incurred a loss of 4000 million rupees. Also it has been discovered the said private contractor has benefited by charging 1300 rupees instead of 300 Rupees for a new driving license.
