Purchasing of Paddy in the Yala Season will commence on Saturday from Ampara

Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board Upali MOhotti says, that purchasing of paddy in 2018 Yala season will commence on Saturday. He said that, the purchasing would commence from Uhana, Kohombana Village in the Ampara district. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera is expected to be present on the occasion. Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has instructed to commence purchasing of paddy as the harvesting of Yala Season has begun.
Nearly 450 thousand acres of paddy have been cultivated under Yala Season. The Agriculture Department expects the harvest of 1.4 million metric tons. The Paddy Marketing Board, is prepared to purchase 120 metric tons of paddy during this Yala Season. The government has allocated 4.9 billion rupees to purchase paddy.
Arrangement have been made to sell the rice made out of paddy purchased from the Farmers through SATHOSA outlets under the PMB rice brand. This is the 1st time that the Paddy Marketing Board is implementing a such method.

Some farmers have not been able to sell their harvest to the Paddy Marketing Board as the wet percentage should not exceed 14 percent. The Paddy Marketing Board has made arrangements to set up paddy drying machines near storage complexes by the time of harvesting paddy in Maha Season.
The Paddy Marketing Board purchases a kilo gram of Nadu paddy for 38 rupees and a Kilo gram of Samba for 41 rupees.
