Gangodawila Magistrate Harsha Pelpola today refused a request made by a panel of lawyers appeared for MP Ranjan Ramanayake requesting to grant bail to him as his arrest has not been made legally. The magistrate pointed out that the magistrate court has the power to take an issue a warrant on any offence. Lawyers appears made this request arguing that no warrant can be obtained from the magistrate court against Mr.Ranjan Ramanayake. The magistrate ordered to remand Mr.Ranjan Ramanayake further till 29th of this month and report the progress of investigations on that day.

Meanwhile, Gangodawila Magistrate Harsha Pelpola ordered three media organizations today, to handover the unedited visuals and voice recordings of the lawyer Aasha Kahawatta who spoke on behalf of parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayaka during the raid to CID for further investigation. The order was given with the sole purpose of safeguarding the dignity of the courts. Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peris said everyone has a moral responsibility to safeguard the respect of the court.
