An anti-narcotics Police team yesterday caught red-handed two young women with a haul of 192 kilogrammes of heroin and ten high quality automatic pistols and ammunition exposing what seemed to have been a major underworld drug and weapons distribution operation.

The Western Province (North) Special Investigations Unit uncovered the haul of heroin and ten world standard pistols with ten magazine clips at a house in the Bandaragama Police area last morning.

Police estimate the value of the heroin haul at around 1,920 million rupees on the basis of the current market value for a kilo of heroin at around 10 million rupees. Three suspects, including the two women, were arrested in this connection.

The detection was made by a special police team operating under former Special Task Force DIG Aruna Jayasundara, which had been investigating drug operations in the country.
