Chairman of the airports and aviation company limited Major General G.A. Chandrasiri says that all shortcomings at the Katunayake international airport are now being rectified. President Gotabhaya Rajapakse who made a visit to airport premises recently had observed the shortcomings and given instructions to authorities to resolve them. Facilities and protection have been ensured for the passengers and visitors accompanied by them. The number of scanners and officials to check passengers luggage have been increased. Participating in the Subarathi programme of the SLBC this morning, the chairman also stated that new measures have been introduced to protect the passengers and foreign tourists from harassment of middlemen at arrival and departure. Accordingly, no room is left to unnecessary individuals to involve in any activity at the airport. The police have been instructed to take such individuals into custody. Arrangements have been made to screen all in and out bound passengers against the Corona virus. Major General Chandrasiri also said that possibility of using Mattala international airport to facilitate the Hadj pilgrims is also being looked into.
