The Education Ministry is planning to provide 18,000 unemployed graduates with teaching appointments and another group of 60,000 persons are to be enrolled as teacher assistants soon, Education, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Minister Alahapperuma was addressing a meeting at Komangoda in Thihagoda recently said plans are afoot to set up a labour force of 100,000, comprising unemployed young men and women, and school leavers with educational qualifications lower than the G.C.E. Ordinary Level. Basic training for a period of six months will be given to them in the relevant job sectors which they have chosen and then, they would be recruited to jobs in the state sector.
