Chairman of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Professor G.L. Peiris says all stakeholders and alliance partners of Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandhanaya have agreed to contest the forthcoming general election under the lotus bud symbol. Professor Peiris revealed this information at a media conference held in Colombo yesterday. Addressing the gathering he further said it is suitable to go for the election with a most popular symbol. Accordingly, the alliance partners and other parties of the Sandhanaya have agreed to go with lotus bud. There is no conflict or dispute with regard to this symbol. This is a unanimous choice of all parties aligning with Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Sandhanaya.
Meanwhile, the United National Party Working Committee meeting has ended recently without a decision on the symbol for UNP-led alliance, says the General Secretary of the party, MP Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.
However, the Working Committee has met last Sunday to discuss about the symbol of the alliance. But there was no firm decision taken in this regard. The UNP sources are in favour of elephant symbol. But Samagi Jana Bala Vegaya headed by Sajith Premadasa is in favour of a common symbol. The new alliance led by Sajith Premadasa has rejected the elephant symbol.
