The Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs says that tomorrow will not be a government holiday. Secretary to the Ministry Siripaala Hettiarachchi said during a media briefing in Colombo today that staff officers can bring down only the staff they needed. Officials engaged in trade, medical, electricity, water, banks and election duties should maintain their services as usual. Steps have been taken to prevent gathering of people. Although Wednesday is the public day, the public can attend to their needs over the telephone without visiting offices. The secretary said that Gramaniladhari officers, divisional secretariat officials and civil defence committees have been given the opportunity to provide information on the coronavirus and related matters. Taking part in the media briefing senior DIG Ajith Rohana said that legal action has been taken against to individuals who spread rumors about the virus. He said that investigations are being conducted about another 40 persons. He further said that an individual and his wife who avoided the doctors and investigations after being infected with the virus were taken to Mount Lavinia court. Minister Bandula Gunawardhana said that the government has taken all measures to protect the people and the country from the pandemic.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said that another four corona infected persons were reported today. Among them are a 13 year old girl. He said the others are males in the ages of 37, 50 and 73 years. They have arrived in the country from abroad. The individual who arrive in the country on the 13th of this month after visiting several countries, is undergoing treatment for coronavirus. It is believed that the other person who was with him has also been infected. Although the doctors have advised him to get treatment from the IDH, he has obtained treatment from a private institution. Therefor Dr. Jasinghe said that legal action will be taken against him and his wife. He said that 22 infected persons have been found in the country so far.
