Deputy Transport Minister Ashoka Abeysinghe says the government has focused to declare the railway service an essential service as the trade unions continue strike. He stresses that the railway trade unions should solve the problems through negotiations. Meanwhile, Parliamentarians and General public have vehemently criticize the railway strike as targeted to harass the people. Many A Level students who travel to their examination centers by train told the SLBC that they have faced immense difficulties due to this strike
