President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa focuses attention to utilize digital technology for the distribution mechanism of agriculture and other essential items. The President held a special discussion with the secretaries of the ministries and other heads of the institutions relating to agriculture, internal trade, consumer welfare, plantations and export development sectors at the Presidential Secretariat today. At this meeting the President stressed the need to create an environment where the farmers will be able to sell their produce at the highest rate of prices. The President had a lengthy discussion in deciding the necessary recommendations for the purpose. The President instructed the officials to arrange a productive system using the digital technology to connect the farmers, buyers and distributors. The ultimate aim of this mechanism is to prevent the farmers being exploited by intermediate agents and to make their profession a dignified one.
