The number of people who have died from the novel coronavirus in the United States surpassed 61,669 on by now, based on the most recent data available from Johns Hopkins’ Coronavirus Resource Center. More than 1 million people had tested positive for Covid-19 and more than 147,400 had recovered in the US as of today. Across the world to date, there were more than 3.2 million confirmed cases, 228,520 deaths and 1,007,000 recoveries. The 60,000 death mark is particularly notable, as President Donald Trump and officials on his coronavirus task force previously suggested that the US death count would likely remain closer to 60,000 rather than the 100,000 to 200,000 that other models had projected.
