President Gotabhaya Rajapakse says that the plantation sector is capable in an extensive capacity to contribute to build the economy of the country if it performs with a target. He said that all the countries in the world are facing severe difficulties. The president pointed out that the government was able to manage challenges by limiting imports. A major task is entrusted with the plantation sector to build the local economy. The president pointed out the need to make unprofitable plantations profitable, keeping this situation in mind. The president mentioned this during a discussion at the presidential secretariat today. Speaking on the occasion Minister Ramesh Pathirana said that his ministry expects to earn an income of 753 billion rupees through export crops. He said that plans have also been drawn up to develop coconut cultivations targeting the local market and exports.
