Police had arrested 40 persons for violating social distancing rules and another 189 persons for not wearing a face mask

Police have arrested 229 individuals in the Western Province for failure to follow the mandatory health and safety guidelines which have been issued to control the spread of COVID-19. A provincial police operation was carried out yesterday on the instructions of the Senior DIG in charge of Western Province to apprehend those who are not adhering to the health guidelines such as social distancing rules. Accordingly police had arrested 40 persons for violating social distancing rules and another 189 persons for not wearing a face mask.

Senior DIG Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon said police operations to apprehend individuals who are not following the health guidelines issued to control the spread of COVID-19 will be carried out continuously
