The Director of Astronomy and Space Science Unit, Department of Physics at Colombo University Prof. Chandana Jayaratne says the second penumbral lunar eclipse of this year will begin tomorrow night at 11.15 p.m. Lunar eclipses occur on full moon days when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon. In a penumbral eclipse Moon will not enter the dark shadow of the Earth, but the lighter-shadow. Therefore, during this particular eclipse, there will be no dark shadow as in total or partial lunar eclipses, but only a reduction of the brightness of the Moon.
