The Board of members of the Foreign Employment Bureau has given its full consent to the proposal submitted by Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to launch special savings accounts of 50 million rupees on behalf of immigrant workers. Chairman of the Bureau Kamal Rathwatte said that a programme will be implemented in connection with the UN immigrant family and International Day of Family Remittances which falls today. Under the programme the Bureau will deposit five dollars as an initial amount by opening a special deposit account when a worker gets registered at the Bureau. It will be implemented together with several local commercial banks. Another five dollars is expected to be deposited by the bank to the account of the immigrant workers.
