A new programme is now underway to provide assistance to families who are returning to their former lands released by the military in the North and East. The UNDP office in Sri Lanka has signed an agreement with the British government to carry forward this task. The project costs 1.3 million dollars.
Under the project, assistance will be provided for 2,500 families who will be returning, in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mulativu and Batticaloa districts. Families involved in fisheries, agriculture and animal husbandry will benefit, while training will be provided for entrepreneurs to develop their businesses and to manage small scale entrepreneurships.
