Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the Urban Development Authority to establish a museum at the old palace premises in Kurunegala, belonging to the 14th century. 350 million rupees has been estimated for the project. The architectural plan to convert it into a museum under the preliminary stage, has been prepared. The Prime Minister has instructed to build the museum to get the attraction of local and foreign tourists and school children about the Kurunegala Kingdom of the past. The history has recorded that the Kurunegala kingdom commenced in 1293 and four kings ruled the kingdom until 1333.
