Cinema halls directed not to display election propaganda

The Election Commission has directed the National Film Corporation to take steps to prevent owners of the cinema hall from promoting any kind of political advertisements during film screening. The display of promotional material from candidates or political parties during film screening will be considered a violation of election laws. The Acting Inspector General of Police has ordered all police stations to examine if these activities are taking place at island-wide cinema halls.

The Police Headquarters said that the National Film Corporation has informed the Police about the directive issued by the National Election Commission.
