Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis and Former Northern Province Councillor M.K. Shivajilingam have been arrested

Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Mendis has been arrested for causing a fatal accident in the Gorakana area in Panadura early this morning. The Panadura North Police have arrested Mendis following the accident that resulted in the death of a 64-year-old man.

It has been reported that the accident happened when the SUV of Kusal Mendis crashed into a bicycle at around 5.15 this morning.

Former Northern Province Councillor M.K. Shivajilingam has been arrested by the Valvettithurai Police. He was arrested for avoiding court proceedings. In 2019, the Police filed a case under the Prevention of Terrorism Act against Shivajilingam for being in possession of Prabhakaran’s photograph and other related banners, as well as celebrating his birthday. Shivajilingam had not appeared before the Point Pedro Magistrate court, when the case was taken up today
