The historic Kandy Esala Festival, the procession of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic will be held this year without spectators due to the COVID-19 risk. Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela said the first Kumbal Perahera will parade the streets tomorrow.
The Kumbal Perahera will parade until the 29th of this month. The first Randoli Perahera will be held on the 30th July and the final Randoli Perahera will parade on Nikini Fullmoon Poya day, on the 3rd of August 3. The festival will end on the 4th of August with the Water Cutting Ceremony and the Day Perahera followed by the State Festival to be held at the President’s Official Residence in Kandy under President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s patronage. The SLBC has made arrangement to bring live commentaries every day during the Esala festival.
