The propaganda activities of the forthcoming general election will end at mid night tonight. Print, electronic and social media should end all propaganda activities at 12.00 mid night tonight. Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya told SLBC that those who are at quarantine centers will not be able to cast their votes this time. Voters who are under self-quarantine at homes can cast their votes under the supervision of the public health inspector. It is mandatory to confirm the identity of the individual to cast the vote. Therefore it is compulsory for the voter to produce either the national identity card, passport, driving license, pensioner’s identity card, senior citizen’s identity card or the clergy identity card issued by the department of registration of persons to cast the vote. A differently abled person can cast the vote with the assistance of a senior official at the polling center.

Many main political parties will hold their final rallies and meetings in Colombo while the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna will hold its final election rally in Palatuwa, Matara with the participation of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Prior to the rally a series of meetings will also be held in Hambantota. The Premier will participate in all meetings.

The United National Party will hold its final rally in Maligawatta, according to Deputy leader of the party and Colombo District candidate, Ravi Karunanayake.

The rally will begin at 8 pm and will be attended by the Leader of the UNP, Ranil Wickremesinghe, Deputy Leader Karunanayake and other prominent members of the party.

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) led by its leader Sajith Premadasa will hold its last rally in Colombo Central. The rally will begin at 7 pm.

The National People’s Power (NPP) led by Colombo District NPP candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake will also hold its final campaign rally in Maligawatta.

The rally at 4 pm will be attended by the NPP’s candidates from the Colombo district and other organisations supporting the NPP. Dissanayake will also be present.
