Today marks one year since the Indian government revoked autonomy from the Indian-controlled part of Kashmir. The decision continues to affect the lives of the residents in the region disputed with Pakistan. India ended the 70-year-old autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir state on August 5, 2019. The state was later divided into two territories and put under India’s direct control. Authorities are restricting internet communication in the region to prevent anti-government protests. They re-imposed a curfew on Tuesday ahead of the first anniversary of the decision.
