Pakistan has expressed its support for the development of education in Sri Lanka. High Commissioner of Pakistan in Sri Lanka Major General Muhammad Saad Khattak mentioned this during a meeting with Minister Professor G.L. Peiris. The Education Minister and the High Commissioner agreed to maintain strong bilateral cooperation in higher and technical education sectors. It was agreed to grant additional 1,000 scholarships for local students to follow higher education under Sri Lanka-Pakistan Foundation within next five years. The Education Minister requested the High Commission to maintain relations with Sri Lanka University Grants Commission and to take steps to further develop cooperation between the two countries.
