The number of corona infected cluster in Divulapitiya has risen to 1307. Another 121 infected persons were identified yesterday. Two villages in Mannar have been declared isolated areas in an attempt to control the COVID-19 pandemic, stated the Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.
The Pattithottam and Periyakadai areas in Mannar have been isolated in this manner. Accordingly, it is completely banned traveling inside and outside the villages . The necessary facilities for the students who are sitting for the GCE A/L examination will be provided by the police and the army to travel their scheduled examination centers.
A student of the University of Kelaniya is also reported to have contracted the novel coronavirus, COVID-19.The patient is reportedly a female student studying in the Department of Statistics in the Faculty of Sociology, at the university. She is a resident of Minuwangoda and reportedly her father is an employee at the Minuwangoda apparel factory.
Media Director of the University of Kelaniya, Senior Lecturer Wijayananda Rupasinghe, stated that two other students who had contacts with the infected student have also been subjected to PCR tests.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Senior Professor Sudantha Liyanage, says that a final decision will be taken today regarding the future academic activities of the university, where a person infected with the coronavirus was identified. No students will be allowed within the university campus until then, he added.
After confirming a member of family of the university employees who had infected the corona virus, another four employees of the university who has contacted with that employee has been directed for PSR test. However it has been not confirmed that they have infected the virus. The administration of the Kelaniya University has decided to suspend the academic activities of the university since the last 4th with the reporting the cases in Minuwangoda factory.
The ministry of health has emphasised that it is not suitable for elderly persons to visit their clinics to take treatment for their chronic diseases with the face of spreading corona virus.. Therefore, the government is preparing a programme to provide clinical pharmaceutical items to their houses. Specially this programme will be implemented in the Gampaha and Colombo districts and later in the other districts as well. The ministry further requests the public to support to control the spread of the virus and to not to be panic unnecessarily.
Meanwhile, The Department of Motor Traffic considering the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country, has decided to further suspend the public services rendered by its offices in Narahenpita and Werahera. Accordingly, the two offices will remain closed for the public from today to the 16th of October. The move came after the re-emergence of community infections of novel coronavirus on October 04.
