New laws to be introduced to control wasting funds during elections

The Elections Commission has taken steps to introduce new laws to control the wasting of funds during elections, and to curb fraud and corruption that takes place when an election is to be held.
The misuse of public funds and related fraudulent and corrupt practices when an election has been announced, is being extensively discussed in society, while many anti-corruption bodies have voiced allegations in this regard.
Legal Director to the Elections Commission: Attorney-at-law Nimal Punchihewa says, the commission has given attention to this precedent, and with approval from the President and the government, intends to introduce new legislation to counter this situation.
