Minister of Health: Dr Rajitha Senarathne says, after the smuggling of weapons, the smuggling of drugs secures the second notorious place in the world. Speaking to the Subharathee Discussion Programme aired over the SLBC this morning the Minister said, he is grateful the Senaka Bibile Pharmaceuticals Policy was made a reality even after 45 years.
Under the price regulation imposed on the generic name of 48 medicinal drugs in 2016, it was possible to effect a price reduction on 273 brands of drugs. He noted, there are ten Cancer Treatment Drugs among the 25 medicinal drugs on which a price reduction was brought into effect from midnight yesterday.
Joining in the discussion, Chairman of the National Medicine Regulatory Authority: Professor Asitha De Silva said, an analysis was conducted in 2016 and 2017 after the price reduction of 48 drugs. Also joining in the discussion, Chief Food and Drug Inspector at the Authority: Amith Perera said, a special mechanism has been put in place to check as to whether pharmacies are dispensing drugs correctly.
