The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak says that 8724 PCR tests have been conducted in the country yesterday. With those the number of total PCR tests carried out in the country is more than 374,000. The Centre says that 9,386 persons are now under quarantine in 82 quarantine centers run by Sri Lanka army.
Total positive cases of Covid-19 reported from the Minuwangoda cluster topped the grim milestone of 2,000 yesterday. The new development came after 121 more persons linked to the cluster were tested positive for the virus. Army Commander Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said 115 of the fresh cases are employees of Brandix apparel factory in Minuwangoda and their contacts who are currently at quarantine centres. Thereby, the total number of novel coronavirus cases by the Minuwangoda cluster soared to 2,016. In the meantime, it was confirmed that 06 individuals who arrived from foreign countries have aslo contracted the virus.
This brings the total number of Covid-19 infections confirmed in the country to 5,475. Statistics revealed that 2,067 of them are currently under medical care at selected hospitals. Sri Lanka’s novel coronavirus recovered cases count meanwhile stands at 3,395
