The government has decided to grant an allowance of Rs 5,000 each to all those who have lost their sources of income due to the curfew imposed in the Gampaha District. Minister Prasanna Ranatunga stated that a sum of Rs 400 million has been allocated for this program. This allowance will be paid for more than 72,000 persons in this district. In the first phase, the allowance will be paid for the affected persons living in Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, Weyangoda police areas. All the 16 other curfew imposed areas will be covered in the 2nd phase of the programme. Gampaha District Secretary Sunil Jayalath says that the distribution of the allowance is set to commence from Tuesday.
