Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva says that the government has no concept to earn profits from the train services, but what is needed is to minimize the loss. The public trust in the railway has been broken. The tourists do not like to travel by train due to strikes. The Minister said in Colombo today the new General Manager and the staff would work to rebuild the public trust and to provide a better service. A function had been organized today in connection with assuming duties by the new General Manager Dilantha Fernando. Speaking further on the occasion the Minister said that 12 engines would be imported form the US to operate on the upcountry track. Steps have been taken to import 9 power sets from China, 12 engines and 160 compartments from India. The railway signal system will be modernized. The Kelaniweli line will be developed.
