Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohasna says that investigations have been launched to find persons who published fake news over social media about coronavirus deaths. He said one such person was taken in to custody from Kadugannawa, Henawala, Egodawatta area this morning. The DIG said that the suspect would be produced in court under the criminal law as well as quarantine regulations. He further said that the suspect would be produced in court under the charges of obstructing the quarantine process by publishing false news, creating a fear psychosis and unrest among the people. DIG Ajith Rohana said that they found information related to 4 individuals who shared the relevant post. He said that they would also be arrested. He further said that out of the 53 Covid deaths in the country only one person has died on the road who was a beggar. The DIG requested the public not to share such fake news over social media.
Travel restrictions on moving out of the Western Province will be removed from mid night tomorrow.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana says that travel restrictions on leaving the Western Province will be removed from mid night tomorrow. He said that except for isolated areas, other areas will become normal. The limits imposed on isolated areas will continue. Travelling in isolated areas is monitored using Drones. Accordingly, he said that 22 people have been arrested for violating travel restrictions in those areas.
