A program launched to grow mangrove plants near lagoons.

A program has been implemented to grow mangrove plants near lagoons island-wide. It is being implemented by the Marine Environment Protection Authority on the instructions of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse. The aim is to further expand more than 15,000 hectares of mangroves at present. A program to plant mangrove plants near lagoons has been launched to coincide with the 1st anniversary of assuming office by President Gotabhaya Rajapakse. The program has been implemented in Kilinochchi, Mannar and Rakawa areas. The program is scheduled to commence in Trincomale tomorrow.
