Local coconut production has increased. Chairman of the coconut cultivation board Kapila Yakandawala said that the coconut production this year has increased when compared with the last year. The chairman said that if the wholesale price of a coconut remains at 45 rupees it is a fair price to the cultivators. He said that the demand for the coconut oil has increased as the doctors have pointed out it is not harmful to the health. He said that the annual requirement of coconut oil in Sri Lanka is 180 thousand metric tons. However, the production is 60 thousand metric tons.
